Alexey Titarenko is a Russian photographer and artist.
His series of collages, photomontages and images are created by superposing several negatives
Titarenko's prints are subtly crafted in the darkroom. Bleaching and toning add depth to his nuanced palette of grays. His SHADOW PEOPLE are a comment on the shadows of a city. While the artist uses nineteenth century techniques such as prolonged exposure, he is constantly searching for new possibilities. As a result, Titarenko has developed a unique style, “metaphorical photography,” defined by the third dimension, that of time. By using SHADOWS and translating time into a purely photographic language, he exposes the frailty of human existence and reveals those precious moments in life that move our soul.
PHOTOGRAPHER: Alexey Titarenko
MIXED MEDIA AO2 possibilities: CHARCOAL, ACRYLIC PAINT, BLEACHING EDGES OUT...
SHADOWS: The Alexey Titarenko style:
HOW TO GUIDE:
It can be achieved following these points:
1. Pick a busy place with the densest crowd available
2. Set up a tripod with your camera as multiple exposure will be required for best effect.
3.Possibly set up the camera to do 5 exposures. It is possible with fewer, it all depends on the density of the crowd.
4. Take the exposure with a slowish shutter speed. Around half a second is good.
5. Once the exposures are taken, turn the image B&W and LAYER adjust to get the desired effect.
Here are other photos done in this style : CLICK: Arcade of Shadows....if you merge many slightly blurred photos together it makes a darker, fuller, 'river' of people.
it's the same shutter speed on all shots. The blur comes from blending five or six images evenly, not from blurring any one image.
Merging digital shots is easy: load all the images in layers (photoshop, PIXLR gimp or any programme that has layers). Leave the bottom layer at 100% opacity. Set the next lowest to 50% (half) opacity, the next in turn to 33% (one third ) and so on. Use selective masking to freeze the girl on the right. OR GET YOUR MODEL TO FREEZE...
